Captain’s Address 2017

I am delighted and honoured to be elected Captain of Millicent Golf Club for 2017 and I very much appreciate the many good wishes and offers of support that I have received.

I would like to thank outgoing Captain Brian Morrell for all his hard work and dedication over the last year which helped to ensure the smooth running of the club. I would also like to thank him for inviting me to be his vice-Captain an experience which I hope will stand to me in the year ahead. I also look forward to working with Michael Donlon as my vice-Captain. I wish our Lady Captain Eileen Gray and her committee every success for the Ladies club in 2017.

I am very lucky to have a very dedicated and enthusiastic committee to assist me with all matters associated with the men’s club and I hope that you will all continue to support and cooperate with them this year. Joe, Dan and staff have the course in great shape and I am confident weather permitting that this will continue for 2017.

At a January 2017 EGM we the members decided to proceed to sign a lease with the Company that has run our club for the last 16 years and to transition from a privately owned and run club to a members run club. An executive committee was formed at that meeting and are working hard to put the structures in place to run the club, course and all our facilities. We welcome members, visitors and society organisers to our friendly club and excellent golf course. You are assured of a warm welcome and an enjoyable golfing experience followed by some fine cuisine and a relaxing drink in our luxurious restaurant and bar.

I would like to welcome our new members and would encourage them to take part in all club competitions over the season. We wish our teams every success for 2017 and thank you to our inter club co-ordinator Myles Byrne, team managers, assistants and players for the time and commitment they invested in the teams during 2016. Millicent GC has the honour of hosting its first GUI finals in 2017 when the GUI All-Ireland Four-Ball Inter-Club Championship Semi-Finals and Final will be held on the 16th and 17th of September. We look forward to welcoming participants representing the four provincial winners ,  their supporters, GUI officials and national media to Millicent and showing these visitors the excellent course and facilities that we enjoy.

Carol Tutty will remain as junior convenor for 2017 and continue her excellent work in developing our junior members. I wish our junior members all the best for the 2017 season and congratulate them for reaching the final of the Kildare section of the Fred Daly in 2016.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our generous sponsors who sponsor our competitions, Fixture book and events during the year and I would ask our members to show their support whenever possible to these local businesses.

I look forward to working with our Lady Captain, Eileen Gray, and Executive Chairman Ger Morris on matters of mutual interest for the good of the club and at the end of our first year as a members club that  we will be in a good place to grow further in 2018.

Finally I wish all the members good health, good luck and good golf for the 2017 season.

Yours in Golf

John Kehoe
